Picture yourself waking up each morning among the lush greenery, sipping on a locally brewed cup of Ceylon tea while you bask in the symphony of chirping birds and rustling leaves. With the beauty of the surrounding nature wrapping around you like a warm hug, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard. Made for two adults—and one little one too—the delightful Bungalow Suite is equipped with everything you need, including a comfy double bed that promises sweet dreams after a day of exploration.

This is a fantastic place! If you are looking for an authentic experience in a genuine colonial property, then look no further, you really won't be disappointed. The 'bungalows' are not stand-alone, as you might expect, but are actually separate areas of the large property which allows you to enjoy all of the communal areas and to interact with other guests, or simply find a quiet place to relax and unwind. The property manager, Bernard, was so helpful and was always on hand to ensure that everything was just right, even down to offering hot water bottles to us on the chilly nights. Not that the rooms were cold - the heating worked very well - but it was typical of the high levels of service that you can expect here. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was modern, with lots of hot water, and the WiFi worked well for us. The breakfasts were very tasty and the two dinners that we had there were both excellent.

Ferncliff Bungalow is a very special place to stay and probably my favourite guesthouse in Sri Lanka. It's small (four rooms) which means you are extremely well-looked after by Bernard and his team. The bungalow is spacious with large rooms and a cosy communal dining area (complete with an open fire). The limited number of rooms means maximum flexibility when it comes to arrival, departure and all your meals. Bernard kindly prepared a packed lunch for our young children to eat on the train. The gardens are well-maintained and a welcome open (but safe) space for kids to let off steam.

“Vintage Gem of a bungalow - had a fabulous stay at this colonial bungalow with superb food and service and beautiful gardens with interiors lovingly restored but retaining quirky charm of a bygone era - perfect!” We used ferncliff as the base to trek stages 22 and 21 of the Pekoe Trail which was sensational” : https://www.thepekoetrailsrilanka.com/ The staff was extremely supportive to give us a packed snack as we set off at 6 am . Getting back after a hike to this piece of paradise was heavenly and reguvanating! Thank you Team Ferncliff. We will be back .

Very spacious and comfortable- 6 bedrooms with very large lounge spaces to accommodate any kind of leisure. Set on very large private grounds the property is very peaceful and relaxing yet close to the town and main attractions. We were very lucky to be the only guests for 3 days and were pampered by the wonderful Roshan and his team. Superb cooking, fabulous house keeping, a welcoming fire and a wake up pot of tea to our room first thing. Roshan also arranged transport and laundry for us. Couldn’t have asked for more.

Fantastic hospitality in a wonderfully relaxed and historic villa. Our group, which ranged from 5 to 75, all had an amazing time at Ferncliff. Food was lovely, but it was the service and the atmosphere that was really spectacular. Special shout to Bernard for being such a wonderful host. And also a big mention for the hot water bottles!!
